The Loews Arlington Hotel and Convention Center is the new $550M resort joining the flourishing sports and entertainment district located amid Globe Life Field, home to the Texas Rangers, and AT&T Stadium, home to the Dallas Cowboys. This state-of-the-art meetings and resort destination caters to groups of all sizes with 266,000 square feet of meeting and convention space. Proudly situated in the venue are 50 unique Modernfold operable walls comprised of 512 panels from a variety of our product lines. The all-star lineup consisted of architect HKS, contractor JE Dunn, and local Modernfold distributor, TRW Family of Companies. Building off a long-tenured partnership with HKS, TRW brought invaluable insights, expertise, and adaptability to help ensure the project’s success.
A key objective of the design was to meet the anticipated, quick-turn demands of the space. Guest flow from a ballroom to a food station to a meeting room needed to be seamless one day and then converted and flipped for an entirely different need and client the next. Flexible space solutions were certain to increase the space’s appeal and profitability.
Consultation was immediately provided by TRW to ensure the ideal movable wall was selected throughout. From finishes to daylighting to workability, many factors were at play. “Our team had strict attention to detail,” said Craig Cowsert, Vice President of TRW. “We hosted early meetings with interior designers regarding the 14 different project finishes allowing HKS to be more collectively organized for the submittal process.” The client also wanted to ensure the space was illuminated with natural light. The Lone Star Hallway now provides the daylighting benefits from Modernfold’s glass operable system, Acousti-Clear®. Education and customization was also a key focus of TRW as it helped to address the structural requirements to accommodate hotel tower floor abutments impacting the ballroom’s column placement and pocket door sizing for panel storage. And as installation approached, TRW’s team opted to manage the process in totality with inhouse labor inclusive of finding creative solutions for craning 24-foot tall panels into the building one at a time. “Our initial approach to delivering panels to floors above the ground floor changed multiple times as the project evolved. We know we have to be creative and nimble to best serve the client,” said Cowsert.
In total, five different types of Modernfold products spanning four convention center floors were ultimately selected. Acousti-Seal® Encore®, Legacy®, and Premier®, our flat wall acoustical panels, can be found in a variety of ballrooms. Single-pane glass operable walls are showcased in the retail space in the lobby. A series of meeting spaces are outfitted with our premium glass wall system, Acousti-Clear®, for the room frontages and Encore® with full-height markerboard for interior room dividers.
With the opening of the Loews Arlington Hotel and Convention Center if February 2024, Modernfold and TRW share great pride in this public testament to the ingenuity of our product portfolio and our commitment to client service. Loews is already breaking ground on yet another property to be situated next door, and we are proud to have already secured that partnership too. Let’s “play ball!”
